Setting (ooc description)

The known world has a Tudor-esque setting. The various cultures are all variants of the Tudor period in the British Isles, some with Norse influence in the northwest

The local lands are targeted for colonisation from overseas, starting with wolverines invading Badger lands from the northwest. Other peoples have sent colonists to the ‘empty’ areas in the region, and there are rumours going around that tell of strange inhabitants living in and adjacent to the swamps by the Sweetwater Sea.

Goats and other taxa will be added as PCs once the game grows; the Goat homeland is on the opposite side of the northern peninsula from the badgers. Characters with special attacks (goat horns, etc) will have to wait to be added until the coding is ready for them (special attacks, etc).

Other taxa can be added as either locals that were just not added initially, immigrants, and migrations/colonists.

The climate varies widely throughout the known lands. The lands in the far north are chilly in summer and snowy in the winter. Much of the land in the north of Mainland is permanently covered in ice and the Northern Ocean freezes over in winter. The Solid Sea is frozen over for much of the year. The Hopeless Sea stays frozen longer in spring than the adjacent areas in the Northern Ocean.

In the south of the known lands the temperature is much warmer year-round. The southern ends of Carrick, Sutherland and Artami are subtropical and the islands off their southern ends are frost-free.

Much of the terrain in the known world is mountainous or hilly. The highest mountains are near to the Mouse homeland and are snow capped year round. Instrett, Caribdys, Carrick, and Sutherland are mostly hills and mountains.

Pirates - There are pirates in these waters. The Weasels used to be the biggest threat and they and the Badgers would long ago raid nearby settlements; the Badgers have since settled down and these days prefer to stay at home and tend their lands. The Weasels still raid now and then, but their ability to successfully raid other civilisations has been severely hampered by the advancement of sailing technology in other lands, hampering the Weasels’ ability to successfully raid. This raiding is is not condoned by the Weasels’ officials.

The other pirates active in the area are the Hyenas. Nobody knows where they came from but they certainly know what they’re doing; many settlements in the known world have built or improved the forts guarding the various ports in the known world in order to stave off attacks from the Hyenas on their cities, towns, and ports. The Hyenas have three settlements on the islands of Carrick and Instrett which are unknown to any in the known lands.
