Cats are agile, quick, midsized, reactive, and social.
The Cats share Sutherland with the Horses. Their side of the island is much hillier and has almost no flat land, which matters little to the cats as they do relatively little agriculture. Their three cities are all located on the coast.
This side of the island is wetter than the Horses' side, mostly consisting of subtropical forest.
The far north of their lands holds the border with Ashstone, which runs for a short length delimiting their lands from those of Ashstone. The border is guarded. They also share a border with the Horses via mountain passes.
The Cats' original homeland lay in the Foxes' western lands. They were displaced by the Foxes with some help from the Badgers and seafaring Weasels (Who had not yet been pushed out by the Horses from their homeland). It is unknown who the original inhabitants of their lands were; at some point in the not too distant past they vanished. There are ruins and artefacts that nobody alive understands. The Horses didn't bother to explore this side of the island due to the mountains separating them.
The Cats live in a Kingdom. Throughout history they have had alternate conflict and alliances with Horses. The relationship between the two is very mixed.
Cats are adept hunters and ranchers. Cat settlements have been spreading through the known lands as their own lands have filled up. They hunt and fish for sustenance and enjoyment as well as for economic activity.
Cats generally get along with everyone but are wary of horses' expansionist tendencies. The Cats are a social bunch, living in decent sized familial groups that tend to cluster in tight-knit villages rather than in large cities.
They were at war with the squirrels and rabbits long ago. While official animosity is gone, residual resentment still lingers among all three populations. They seafare and trade, but only locally (with the Horses, Squirrels, Rabbits, Foxes, and Ashstone). The Cats and Horses have fought several times with little changing as a result of the wars.
Cats like names that imply nimbleness, nation, and professions.
The Cats are particularly proficient at aviculture, forestry, scouting, and tracking.
Among the major Cat exports are birds (live, prepared, and as pets), seafood, meats, timber, amber, stringed instruments, and charcoal. The Cats are the main supplier of meats and fish to Ashstone.
Cats in the Isle are known for excelling in the following professions – Entertainers, fisherfolk, builders, and merchants.
