Bears are massive, powerful, temperamental, and focused.
The land of the Bears is cold and distant. Occupying the northeastern part of Mainland, the Bears inhabit a region that is mostly rocky hills with stunted forests and tundra in the mountains. Their costal region freezes in winter, leaving their ports useless in winter months. The overland route to the south is currently impassable due to the war with the Foxes and Wolves.
There have been frequent conflicts between the Bears and all of their neighbours, but mostly with the Wolves. Both the Wolves and Foxes have lost territory to the Bears, but the Wolves have lost the most, including their only seaport. The Bears are said to have exterminated a couple other local peoples in the area they now live in. They went to war with the Badgers long ago and have a treaty with them delineating their border as the Growling River. In general, the Bears don't like anyone.
Formerly, the Bears were Clan-based, some troglodytic, and clan leaders met for major decisions. Bear cities are all quite young. The Bears are currently ruled by a king.
Bears tend to stay home but are frequently sought as mercenaries and along with the horses are often hired when brute strength is required. They are considered the most physically powerful species in the lands with horses a very close second.
Bears like names that indicate strength, self-sufficiency, and intimidation.
Bears make good bodyguards, gaolers, mercenaries, lumberjacks, labourers, and masons.
Their lands are rich in mineral and fur resources. Mixed economy with some agriculture, herding, and hunting.
Their main exports include furs, hides, stone, silver, iron, and tin.
Bears in the city are often dockworkers, guards, etc. At home they are known vintners.
