About

Thank you for visiting my website! This is a little bit about the strange, small person who comes up with all this.

On an archaeological expedition in the Cyclades.

I used to be extremely restless and was always traveling or exploring. These days I prefer to hole up and work on various projects involving writing, photography, photomanipulation, antiques, horticulture, research, aquaria and paludaria, art, electronics, and confectionary.

Some other pastimes I've enjoyed include ceramics, blacksmithing, armour smithing, knife making, photography, water gardening (ponds and such), rock and fossil hunting, architecture, designing and playing board games and games of skill, and throwing pointy things.

I've played in several progressive rock bands. I used to draw and paint ages ago, as well as build 3D projects and am keen to set up a studio/workshop/lab. I used to have a leatherwork booth at the Renaissance Festival. I've done a fair bit of professional writing including co-writing several tabletop roleplaying games.

I like ethnic foods (especially Ethiopian), seafood, raw meat, pasta, and desserts.

I've been playing quite a bit of 'ukulele lately and play a few different instruments and sing. I haven't been active in music in a long while while my attention was on academia, but since I've moved on from that I've been enjoying creative pursuits again. My preferred musical styles are progressive rock and progressive metal.

I am self-employed and have a chocolate business and a horticulture business. I've worked as a tour guide, military forensic scientist, archaeologist, shark- and coral- keeper, model, university lecturer (geology/earth science), among others. I started my first business when I was 14; by 15 I was the state of Michigan's largest aquatic plant specialist (because I was the only specialist).

I am Cambridge-educated, and have several degrees. My PhD is almost complete; my research involved shooting lasers at skeletal vikings. I have a master's degree in Skeletal and Dental Bioarchaeology. I've also participated in a National Geographic-funded archaeological expedition to the Cycladic islands in Greece to study a Bronze Age culture, and helped relocate a lost Chumash village in southern California.

I was born in Detroit and have lived in seven US states as well as Canada, Sweden, Germany, and the UK. I can read to some degree around 13 languages, but most of which I don’t read particularly well.

I'm horribly easily-distracted and I have a deep-seated need to always be working on something or doing something.

When I go out, I like to get out into nature, especially beaches, deserts, mountains, and forests, particularly in the tropics. I love plants and botanic gardens. I also enjoy going to museums, scenic villages, thrift stores and antique shops. I have a horrible sugar addiction. I like to watch science, nature, music, history, crafting, and other videos on YouTube, but don't typically watch tv nor see movies.

In addition to this page, I have an instagram account where you can follow me if you're so inclined – https://www.instagram.com/the_wandering_weasel/.

Join me on my wanderings, won't you?
